Life after Birth..

Even though every child is born believing in Allaah, this is still an interesting refutation to athiests. Makes you think..

“And Allah has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and intellect that perhaps you would be grateful.” [Nahl 16:78]

Lessons from Quraan – Do not waste your good deeds

Would one of you like to have a garden of palm trees and grapevines underneath which rivers flow in which he has from every fruit? But he is afflicted with old age and has weak offspring, and it is hit by a whirlwind containing fire and is burned. Thus does Allah make clear to you [His] verses that you might give thought.” [Baqarah 2:266]

  • This ayah is in regard to someone who performs good righteous action at first and then later follows it with evil which annuls his good deeds.
  • Ibn `Abbas and said that `Umar bin Al-Khattab asked the Companions of the Messenger of Allaah about this ayah. They said, “Allah knows best.” `Umar became angry and said, “Say we know or we do not know.” Ibn `Abbas said, “O Leader of the Faithful! I have an opinion about it.” `Umar said, “O my nephew! Say your opinion and do not belittle yourself.” Ibn `Abbas said, “This is an example set for a deed.” `Umar said, “What type of deed” Ibn `Abbas said, “For a wealthy man who works in Allah’s pleasure and then Allah sends Shaytan to him, and he works in disobedience, until he annuls his good works.” [Bukhari]
  • This is the condition of the disbeliever on the Day of Resurrection when he returns to Allah, for he will not have any good deeds to provide an excuse – or refuge – for him, just as the man in the parable had no strength to replant the garden. The disbeliever will not find anything to resort to for help, just as the offspring of the man in the parable did not provide him with help. So he will be deprived of his reward when he most needs it, just as the man in the parable was deprived of Allah’s garden when he most needed it, when he became old and his offspring weak
  • Do not underestimate sin even if it is small, we should never see any sin as insignificant. Abdullah ibn Masood said: “The believer sees his sins as if he is sitting at the foot of a mountain fearing that it might fall on him, while the sinner  sees his sins as a fly that lands on his nose, he just waves it away.”
  • We should try to remain steadfast on the religion and continue to strive to do good deeds right until our last breath. The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) made dua’aa to Allaah to keep him firm on the religion. The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “All the hearts of the offspring of Aadam are between two fingers of Ar-Rehman’s Fingers, as one heart. He turns it (in any direction) as He wills. Then Allaah’s Messenger said, “O Allaah! The Turner of the hearts, turn our heart towards Your obedience.” [Muslim]
  • It is from amongst the signs of the Day of Judgement that a man will sleep as a Muslim but wake up a kaafir. The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “Hasten in performing good deeds before the time comes when trials would be as dark as nights; a man would wake up a Muslim and go to sleep a disbeliever, and go to sleep as a Muslim and wake up a disbeliever[Muslim]
  • The best deeds we can do are those that are constant, even if they are small. The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “The most beloved deed to Allah’s is the most regular and constant even though it were little” [Bukhari]

Lessons from Quraan – Most of them Commit Shirk

“It is not for a human [prophet] that Allaah should give him the Scripture and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, “Be servants to me rather than Allaah ,” but [instead, he would say], “Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied.” Nor could he order you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he order you to disbelief after you had been Muslims?” [ale Imraan 79-80]

  • This is a direct refutation by Allaah of the Christians who believe in the trinity and believe that Jesus is the son of God
  • On the day of Judgement, Allaah will ask Jesus/Isa (alayhi salam) if he ordered the people to worship him and he will, of course, deny this lie made against him.
  • Allaah (subhanahu wa ta’la) says in surah Maa’idah: “And (remember) when Allaah will say (on the Day of Resurrection): ‘O ‘Eesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Did you say unto men: “Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allaah?”’  He will say: ‘Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my inner-self though I do not know what is in Yours; truly, You, only You, are the All-Knower of all that is hidden (and unseen). Never did I say to them aught except what You (Allaah) did command me to say: “Worship Allaah, my Lord and your Lord.”’ And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them; and You are a Witness to all things. (This is a great admonition and warning to the Christians of the whole world). If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, verily, You, only You, are the All Mighty, the All Wise” ’[al-Maa’idah 5:116-118]
  • The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) warned us in following the footsteps of the Christians in their exaggeration of the Prophet Isa (alayhi salam). The Messenger of Allaah (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “Do not exaggerate about me as the Christians exaggerated about the son of Maryam. I am only a slave, so say, ‘The slave of Allaah and His Messenger.” [Bukhari]
  • The Christians who believe in the trinity commit shirk (associating partners with Allaah). Many of the Muslims nowadays also commit shirk such as when they worship graves or call upon the dead to answer their prayers etc. Allaah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) says in surah Yusuf: “And most of them believe not in Allah without associating (other as partners) with Him!” [Yusuf 12:106]
  • Tawheed (oneness of Allaah) comes first – to commit shirk and associate partners with Allaah is the greatest and most major of all sins. Allaah will forgive all sins except shirk if one dies upon that. Allaah (subhanahu wa t’ala) says in surah Nisaa: “Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills” [Nisaa 4:48]

Lessons from Hadeeth – Those you love

Anas bin Malik (radiAllaahu anhu) reported that a person came to Allah’s Messenger (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) and said to Allah’s Messenger: When would be the Last Hour? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: What preparation have you made for the Last Hour? He said: The love of Allah and of His Messenger (is my only preparation). Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: You would be along with one whom you love. Anas said: Nothing pleased us more after accepting Islam than the words of Allah’s Apostle: You would be along with one whom you love. And Anas said: I love Allah and His Messenger and Abu Bakr and Umar, and I hope that I would be along with them although I have not acted like them.

  • Only Allaah knows when the day of Judgement is. “Verily, Allah! With Him (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour” [Rum 31:34]
  • The death of the Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) is a sign of the Day of Judgement
  • The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) did not mention the time when he answered the question, but asked what the person had prepared for it
  • One can prepare for it by increasing in his knowledge and performing righteous actions right up until death overtakes them.
  • Allaah (subhanahu wa ta’la) says: “And make provision for yourselves; the best provision is taqwa” [Baqarah 2:197]
  • Loving Allaah comes first, then His Messenger (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam), then his companions
  • Muslims should hope to meet their beloved ones and their families in the hereafter. “And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith – We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.” [Tur 52:21]

Last Year Forgiven – Fasting Ashuraa’

The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “For fasting the day of ‘Aashooraa’, I hope that Allaah will accept it as expiation for the year that went before” [Muslim 1976]

  • Ashooraa is the 10th of Muharam which coincides with Tuesday 6th December 2011
  • Fasting on Ashooraa is a means of expiating your sins for the previous year
  • This is from Allaah’s mercy; for fasting one day, Allaah gives us expiation for one year of sins.
  • Only minor sins are expiated as explained by Ibn Taymiyyah (rh) and Imam Nawawi (rh). Major sins require sincere repentance.
  • Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Aashooraa’. He said, ‘What is this?’ They said, ‘This is a righteous day, it is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemies, so Moosa fasted on this day.’ He said, ‘We have more right to Moosa than you,’ so he fasted on that day and commanded [the Muslims] to fast on that day.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 1865).
  • Ashooraa is the day Allaah saved the children of Israeel and drowned Firawn and his people
  • A version narrated by Imaam Ahmad adds: “This is the day on which the Ark settled on Mount Joodi, so Nooh fasted this day in thanksgiving.”
  • It is recommended to fast Taasoo’aa (the 9th of Muharam – the day before) along with Ashooraa.
  • Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with them both) said: “When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted on ‘Aashooraa’ and commanded the Muslims to fast as well, they said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, it is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.’ The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘If I live to see the next year, in sha Allaah, we will fast on the ninth day too.’ But it so happened that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) passed away before the next year came.” (Reported by Muslim, 1916).
