Lessons from Hadeeth – Another Fast, Another Year Forgiven

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Aashooraa’. He said, ‘What is this?’ They said, ‘This is a righteous day, it is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemies, so Moosa fasted on this day.’ He said, ‘We have more right to Moosa than you,’ so he fasted on that day and commanded [the Muslims] to fast on that day.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 1865).

“This is a righteous day” – in a report narrated by Muslim, [the Jews said:] “This is a great day, on which Allaah saved Moosa and his people, and drowned Pharaoh and his people.”

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “For fasting the day of ‘Aashooraa’, I hope that Allaah will accept it as expiation for the year that went before.”

(Reported by Muslim, 1976)

  • When the fasting of the month of Ramadaan was prescribed, fasting on the day of Ashura became optionall for one to observe saum on it or leave its fast
  • Muslims do not follow Jews in their Ibadah but follows Prophet Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wa salam)
  • This years Ashura (10th Muharam) will be on Thursday 16th of December 2010 inshaAllah. Observe the fast if you can.

Lessons from Hadeeth – Bukhari and Muslim

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

inshaAllah Dhikrullah Blog will be starting lessons from hadeeth which will be posted weekly. The hadeeth will be mentioned with small points of benefits and lessons in a small, easy digestible format. These are notes based on classes by my shaykh who is gong through Bukhari and Muslim. At a later date we will add lessons from Imam Malik’s Muwatta inshaAllah. So lets get started inshaAllah

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wa salam) said, “Whoever takes the money of the people with the intention of repaying it, Allah will repay it on his behalf, and whoever takes it in order to spoil it, then Allah will spoil him.”

  • Allah (subhanahu wa ta3la) will help the person with the intention to pay back a loan
  • Its is necessary to pay back a loan. It is better if the taking out of the loan along with the repayment is written with a proper contract ; signed, dated and witnessed.
  • For any action, Allah will put barakah in it if it is done with a good intention.
  • In the battle of Ahzaab Allah defeated the opposing army because the Muslims fought with good intentions.
  • It is haram to take money and not pay it back, this is a form of dhulm (oppression)
  • Muslims should write a will – have money set aside to pay back debts after your death if need be.
