The Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Allaah (ta’ala) says in surah Tawbah: “O you who believe, fear Allah and be with those who are truthful.” [9:119]

  • Another explanation of taqwa is to do everything were are commanded by Allaah and to stay away from everything that is prohibited by Allaah
  • We should be truthful in both our words and actions – truthful in word by speaking the truth and truthful in actions by being sincere
  • The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “Truth leads to piety and piety leads to Jannah. A man persists in speaking the truth till he is recorded with Allah as a truthful man. Falsehood leads to transgression and transgression leads to the Hell-fire. A man continues to speak falsehood till he is recorded with Allah as a great liar.” [Bukhari and Muslim]
  • There are two types of hypocrisy – hypocrisy in action and hypocrisy in belief
  • It is hypocrisy of action to tell lies and it is a characteristic of a hypocrite.  The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “The signs of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks his promise and when he is entrusted he betrays the trust.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
  • Lying is permissible in three cases only.  The Prophet of Allaah (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “He who settles disagreements between people to bring about good or says something commendable is not a liar.” Umm Kulthum (radi Allahu anha) added: “I did not hear him permit untruth in anything people say, except for three things: war, settling disagreements, and a man talking with his wife or she with him (in smoothing over differences.)” (Muslim)

Lessons from Quran and Hadeeth – The Most Honourable with Allah

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Allah (subhanahu wa ta’la) says: “O Mankind we have created you from a male and a female and made you in to nations and tribes that you may know one another. Verily the most honourable of you with Allaah is that (believer) who has At Taqwa (i.e he is one of the Muttaqin (the pious). Verily Allah is all knowing well acquainted (with all things) [surah Hujarat, ayah 13]

Narrated Sahl (radiAllahu anhu): A man passed by Allah’s Apostle and Allah’s Apostle asked (his companions) “What do you say about this (man)?” They replied “If he asks for a lady’s hand, he ought to be given her in marriage; and if he intercedes (for someone) his intercessor should be accepted; and if he speaks, he should be listened to.” Allah’s Apostle kept silent, and then a man from among the poor Muslims passed by and Allah’s Apostle asked (them) “What do you say about this man?” They replied, “If he asks for a lady’s hand in marriage he does not deserve to be married, and he intercedes (for someone), his intercession should not be accepted; And if he speaks, he should not be listened to.’ Allah’s Apostle said, “This poor man is better than so many of the first as filling the earth.’ (Book #62, Hadith #28).

  • It is not the outer appearance of a person that matters but the level of taqwa one has.
  • Taqwa on the inside will also reflect his behaviour and appearance on the outside.
  • A man may be rich and handsome and seem like he has all the delights of the dunya, but there is no share for him in the akhirah due to his lack of taqwa. And likewise a man may be poor and ugly in this world but because of his taqwa, he has the delights in the hereafter.
  • In reality, the Muslim is alive while the non muslim is dead
  • If the Muslims, the Quran etc. were to disappear then the life of this world would be useless.
  • In this hadeeth, the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wa salam) was not backbiting, it was revelation from Allah
Hadeeth found in alBukhari (Book #62, Hadith #28).

Piety is there

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Abu Hurairah, radiyallahu ‘anhu, reported that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, said:

A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He neither oppresses him nor humiliates him nor looks down upon him. Piety is here – and he pointed to his chest three times [Muslim]

As Allah [aza wajal] says in the Quran, the best amongst us, are the most pious of us. It matters not if people dare not aware of our piouty, as long as Allah [aza wajal] is. Piety is not the car you drive or the shoes you wear but piouty is awareness of Allah. Some may look down on you while others think too highly of you but people’s opinion of your emaan is  not what is important. What is important is what Allah [aza wajal] thinks of you and you do not have to let the world know, because piety is in the heart.
