Quick, BEAT the Imam
6 01 2008Not literally, I mean in prayer. What is it with people who pray like its the olympics. This applies to brothers mostly in the masjid, following the imam though can apply to sisters who pray in jama’3ah also.
No matter what happens, you cannot beat the imam, you cant leave till he is finished, so whats the rush.
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Do not bow until he bows, do not prostrate until he prostrates [meaning the imam].”
He [SAW] also said:“Does the one who raises his head before the imam not fear that Allaah may turn his head into the head of a donkey, or make his form like that of a donkey?”
So ayuhal muminoon, please dont try to beat the imam *smiles*

Truely That Is The Case
However Akhi Would You Have References For The Hadiths You Have Shared In The Post
as-Salaamu 3laykum Wr Wb
wa iyyak ukhtee.
jazak’Allahu khair, this is exactly what the comments were enabled for, for discussion on the dhikr. barak’Allahu feeki.
The article was based on the passage in Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen’s RH book al-Sharh al-Mumti’.
The first hadeeth reference is found in Ahmed: “The Imam is selected so that he is followed, therefore, do not differ with him. When he pronounces the Takbir, then pronounce, the Takbir. When he bows, then you should bow. When he stands erect then stand erect. When he says `Allah hears him who praises Him”, Say “Our lord be praised”. When he prostrates, you should prostrate.” [Note: Agreed upon, AI-lu’lu’ Wal Marjan, (No.232)]
The second hadeeth is found in Sahih Bukhari, book 11, hadeeth no. 660. The Prophet [SAW] said:“Does the one who raises his head before the imam not fear that Allaah may turn his head into the head of a donkey, or make his form like that of a donkey?”
Another hadeeth to back up the article is found in Bukhari, book 4, hadeeth no.0857 and Ahmad where Anas reports that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alehi wasallam said: “O people, I am your imam, so do not precede me in ruku’ or in sujjud or in qiyam or in sitting or in finishing.” This is related by Ahmad and Muslim .
wa3laykum salaam wa ra7matullah
Subhanallah akhi, this is so true. In my masjid the last time, the imam had to make a special announcement after the salah. Jazzakallahu Khairan for the reminders.
