And then there was one..

A classic scene in a horror movie or horror fiction is when theres a group of people walking in a forest or graveyard [Allahu a3lam why you would randomly do that anwyay] and then as they walk together in a group..one by one they are each taken away from the group. And even though this might be scary or stupid or funny to some, our life can be seen in a similiar light..

Anas [radiaAllahu anhu] narrated that the messenger of Allah [salAllahu alayhi wa salam] said: “Three things follow a dead person: Members of family, his property and his deed. Two of them return; and one remains with him. The people and his wealth return; his deeds remain with him.” [saheeh Bukharee]

We spend our lives accumulating wealth and trying to be financially happy yet at the end of the day we take none of it with us when death comes to us. We break ties with our family over petty problems when we are commanded to keep the ties of kinship and just like the wealth, when death approaches it is too late, they also they also do not follow us. At the end of the day, the only one that matters is our good actions so we should concentrate most of our effort on these.

Just like in the films you go with a group [your deeds, your family and your wealth] and one by one they are snatched away from you until you are left with only yourself and your good deeds. At first there was three, two will be taken away and then there is one..*smiles*

He died. The End?

4 05 2008

Or is it? Sometimes we may feel that theres only so much good deeds we can do before death but once we finished its the end, khalas, we aint going nowhere. However there is hope.

Abu Huraira [radiAllahu anhu] reported Allah’s Messenger [salAllahu alayhi wa salam] as saying:

When a man dies, his acts come to an end, but three, recurring charity, or knowledge (by which people) benefit, or a pious son, who prays for him (for the deceased).

So we should try right now before we die, to implement all three of these inshaAllah as these will pay off in the long run, in the long long run. Invest in a ongoing charity such as a masjid, gain knowledge and teach it to people so they may benefit. If you cant teach physically, even make a website that has a hadeeth a day or something and also if you have a child, do your upmost to instill love of Allah into them as loving Allah will in turn will make them love their parents and in turn they will naturally pray for you.

Even if you think you havnt done much in terms of rewards in this dunya, try to implement these three as every soul shall indeed taste death and in terms of deeds…maybe its not actually over *smiles*
